Opened in January 2000, Grape Expectations began with a unique system of porthole-like shelving that guides customers by dividing the wines by style. For example, the Full and Spicy section includes American Zinfandel and Australian Shiraz; Bubbly holds Spanish Cava and Italian Prosecco, as well as champagne; Crisp and Refreshing houses both New Zealand and French Sauvignon blanc and so forth. |

John, initially found the adjustment to small-retailer lonely (he used to be a bartender and an entertainer). But he now enjoys cultivating relationships with distributors, importers and customers. The rectangular bar in the middle of the store is now center stage for weekly wine tastings keeping customers informed on current wine trends or reintroducing an old world classic. |
